FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
Q How
do I fix the following Windows error message that may occur when trying to install an S & S application:
XP
"This application
has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect."
VISTA/WIN7
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is
incorrect."
A This message occurs when your Operating System (OS) is either missing required system
files or they are not the same date as the ones used to build the application. The problem is easily fixed by either
running or downloading (from our website - do not go to the Microsoft site because the files there may be
a different version) one of the two redistributable package files listed below:
32-bit OS: vcredist_x86.exe 64-bit OS: vcredist_x64.exe
Click on the appropriate link above and follow the directions to update the Side-by-Side configuration on
your computer.
Q How do I determine what bit-size processor I have?
A To
determine whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit processor, hold down the Windows Key (the one with the Windows logo-flag on
it) and press the "Pause" key at the same. Then read off the system type (32 or 64 bit) from that screen. Alternative,
go to "Start"->Control Panel->System to open the same screen.
Q How to I maximize
an S & S application that has been minimized to the taskbar?
A In XP and VISTA, right-click
on the taskbar icon and choose "Maximize". In WIN7, SHIFT+right-click the taskbar icon and choose "Maximize".
Q On how many computers can any of the S & S products be legally installed with a
single license?
A Generally, a single license will permit installation on a single computer. However,
S & S recognizes that many customers have both a desktop and a laptop for their own personal use, so the license
is liberally interpreted to permit installation on up to, but not more than, one desktop and one laptop of your own.
For more computers than that, please consider purchasing additional licenses.
Q Where can I find
FAQs for specific S & S Products?
A Click on the link for any of products to navigate to one
of our product webpages. Scroll down toward the bottom of the page to find individual FAQs (if they exist).
Q Do
S & S products run on the Windows 7 operating system?
A As of October 25, 2009, the S
& S products have been tested on a 64-bit computer and will run properly under Windows 7.
